Summary: This book is about a Nigerian tribe and a high ranking member of the tribe named Okonkwo. Okonkwo had a lazy father and he does everything he can to avoid making the same mistakes. Things change when there is an accidental murder. Okonkwo adopts a boy named Ikemefuna and comes to love him more that his real son. Three years after this, the tribe decided that Ikemefuna had to be killed. Okonkwo participated in this murder but showed no emotion to keep his image. At a funeral, Okonkwo accidentally kills a child with a gun. He is exiled to Mbanta for seven years for this crime. When he finally returns to the town he finds that almost everyone in the tribe has been converted to Christianity. He tries to start a war to take back the tribe, but he could not.

Evaluation: It’s interesting to read a book written about a different culture. Their traditions and celebrations are strange and interesting. I also enjoyed reading the part where the white man comes. The author put it in the perspective of the tribe very well. The whole book was very exciting, but my favorite part was the dramatic ending.

    Rating: 4/5 stars
