One Response to “Out of Bondage, Linda Lovelace”

  1. Sarah H. Says:

Summary: This book is the story of Linda Marchiano, famously Linda Lovelace, who was forced into prostitution and porn by her husband Chuck Traynor. She came out with all of her horrific tales of rape and beatings through the book Ordeal. This book, Out of Bondage, is somewhat of a sequel. It details her long road of recovery after escaping bondage. For the first five years after leaving Chuck Traynor, Linda was scared to death of meeting him again and made every effort to stay in hiding. During this time she was living in extreme poverty. About ten years after escaping Chuck Traynor, Linda met her future husband. Their relationship was what Linda fell back on when she was under public scrutiny for revealing her story. It took a huge effort to get people to accept her story, but her small team helped her along.

Evaluation: I would absolutely recommend this book. It offered a lot of insights into the recovery from abuse and also some great little stories. It was incredible to find humor in such a tragic life, but that is part of the message. There will always be things to laugh at and enjoy, especially once escaping misery so deep as Linda’s. This book is also extremely interesting and made me interested in the porn industry and the federal standards surrounding it. It made me want to do my own research and find out how prevalent abuse such as Linda’s is in the world today.
