One Response to “Hiroshima, John Hersey”

  1. Olivia H. Says:

Summary: In John Hersey’s novel Hiroshima, readers are put in the shoes of victims of the American bombing on Hiroshima in 1945. Following the lives of six people including doctors, a woman and ordinary men, the author describes the recovery from the devastating killing of 100,000 citizens. After a city spread warning in the morning, citizens still were not ready for the destruction about to come. John Hersey tells of how all the families and people relocate to a park to try and evacuate. Concluding this book John Hersey returns back to the lives of each survivor 40 years later.

Evaluation: I believe that John Hersey did well by using the variety of six characters to tell the story. Being given the perspective of seeing the devastation of the city through each character John Hersey completes this experience.

Recommendations: The Throne of Glass by Sarah J Mass, Uglies by Scott Westerfeld
