Summary: In the book “The Boy Who Dared” by Susan Campbell Bartoletti, is based on the life of Helmuth Guddat Hubner who is a member of Hitlers youth. After watching his friend being madly mistreated for being Jewish, Helmuth becomes aware of the awful deeds being done and decides to take action. This novel is about having the courage to stand up for yourself and also taking a stand for others.
Evaluation: I thought this book was interesting and has a great background message, but I’m not a huge fan of historical books. I think this book does a good job of depicting how life would have been like for the Jewish. I also thought it was interesting how Helmuth changed his views and makes me wonder if there were many people under Hitler’s command who had the same outlook, but were too afraid to do anything.
